Happy Birthday, Josiah!

Today is Josiah's first birthday!  My little boy is one already.  Lots of things happen in a year.  It was a year ago that I looked like this...  Yikes!
A year ago I could hardly contain myself as I waited to meet Josiah.  A year ago I was filled with excitement, fear, pain (physically and emotionally), concerns, worries, happiness, tears and exhaustion.  A year ago I was used to taking care of one small boy, but never dreamed how two would be so much better.  A year ago I didn't know how much joy Josiah was about to bestow.  A year ago I was about to meet someone that I would fall madly in love with and who would change my life forever.  A year ago I was blessed again.

Josiah Thomas,
You are one of the many loves of my life.  You light up our lives every morning.  You are not the happiest camper when you wake up, but that is just like your daddy.  I love that God chose you to be part of our family.  You've brought such a different perspective to us.  You are nothing like your brother and I love that.  From the moment you entered the world you proved that you were going to be your own self.  When you were born the doctors placed you up on my belly and I remember grabbing a hold of you so hard.  I never got to experience that with Garrison as they had to take him away right away so they could suction his mouth and nose. As soon as I grabbed a hold of you I didn't want to let go.  For one I was so scared you were going to fall on the floor, but more importantly I was in love with you already and I wanted to hold you and kiss you and get to know you.

Since then you've been such a joy.  You've pushed me out of my comfort zone and made me a better person and mom.  You've shown me that what I thought I knew I don't.  What I had down with Garrison is not how you like things done.  For the first 3 months of your life you cried a lot.  Daddy and I tried lots of different things to help you, but nothing seemed to work.  We used to say you hated life, but then one day you stopped crying and you've been the happiest, flirtiest, cutest little kid ever.  We get lots of compliments about you and, of course, you then play it up for them.  You like things done a certain way, but are also good at going with the flow.  You can stick up for yourself, somewhat, when Garrison tries to beat you up.  You love to copy what Garrison does and follow where he goes.  You are a picky eater, but if anyone has food you want some of it, even if you've just got done inhaling your own.  When you are hungry you want food NOW, just like your uncle James.  You crawl everywhere.  Can stand on your own, walk along furniture and every now and then you get brave and try to take a few steps.  One of your favorite things to do is push the buttons on the tv, which Garrison just loves when you do.  You take two naps a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.  Your bedtime is anywhere between 6 and 7.  Mostly 7.  You have started to carry around a little froggy blanket.  Which I think is so cute.  You can say mama, dada, hi.  You clap, wave, play peek-a-boo and climb stairs (but not that often).  You also like to empty cupboards and pull cords out of the wall.  Yep, your a regular little boy.  We love you, Josiah and are so glad God blessed us with you.  Happy First Birthday my Little Babbers.

Garrison's debut

Thomas' favorite song is "Until the Whole World Hears" by Casting Crowns. So, of course, whenever it comes on the radio we have to blast it. The other day I was driving the boys around when out of nowhere Garrison started singing this song. It was so cool to hear him sing it. I couldn't stop smiling at how cute it was. I can only imagine what God was doing at that moment, as well. Listening to his little child sing to him with his small, sweet little voice.  It brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it.

And now, ladies and gentleman, here is Garrison's debut. The words are... "Whoa oh oh sing it 'til the whole world hears"  He does a better job singing it in person, but this is as good as we could get him to do it on camera.

And here is Casting Crowns singing it...
